On Saturday morning we were up bright and early to head off for the small village of Stanford, which is about 20 min drive from Hermanus, for their annual triathlon. Being a sleepy village we shouldn't have been surprised when we arrived at the time advertised in the local paper, only to find that we were an hour and a half early! Anyway, after the organizers decided not to do the swim in the river because the water was a bit cold and bike problems, my son eventually finished with an excellent run and a good time was had by all!
Stanford is on the banks of the Kein (small) river which wends it's way to the lagoon and eventually into the sea just outside Hermanus. A fun activity is to go down the river on the African Queen. Unfortunately we didn't have time for that this weekend.
