These stunning mosaic panels are the result of a competition held, in Hermanus, by the Enlighten Education Trust. Nyanga artist, Sandi Mdekazi, received R40 000 as winner of the Sunshine Foundation sponsored Mosaic competition in September 2008. He moved to Hermanus for the duration of the build from mid January to the end of April to oversee the interpretation of his drawings into mosaics.
As you drive into Hermanus and go down Swartdam road to get to the new harbour, you will see these beautiful panels all along the roadside.
You can read more about the artist, the wall and the creative process here.
For anyone visiting Hermanus it is really worth a look, especially at this time of the year when there are no whales to see!
I am a textile designer, beader and crafter. I live in the beautiful seaside villiage of Hermanus with my husband, two boys(who are both working away from home now) and a ginger cat. I love creating things and have always worked with beads, fabrics, design, colours and yarns. My 'proper" job is working as a Literacy & Numeracy facilitator for a local NGO.It is also creative, but in a completely diferent way and most rewarding.

A stunning work of art in the neighbourhood! Lovely to have a story behind it too.
